Iran Not Cooperating With US Over ISIL, Says Jazayeri

A senior Iranian commander has ruled out any cooperation with the US in its so-called campaign against the ISIL Takfiris in Iraq, saying Washington is to blame for the growing terror activities in the Arab state.

Deputy Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces Brigadier General MasoudJazayeri on Thursday rejected a recent claim by a Pentagon official that the Islamic Republic has conducted air strikes against ISIL positions in eastern Iraq over the past days.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran holds the US accountable for the unrest and problems gripping Iraq as well as the terrorist acts by the ISIL terrorist group” in the country, added the top Iranian general.

The US defense department claimed on Tuesday that Iranian fighter jets attacked ISIL militants in eastern Iraq in recent days.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman reiterated on Wednesday that nothing has changed about Tehran’s policy of providing military assistance based on international regulations.

If it were not for the plots and support of the US and the reactionary regimes in the region, the world would not witness the destruction of Iraq and Syria’s infrastructure and the massacre of people at the hands of the Takfiri terrorists, Jazayeri said.

The Iranian commander said that the Iraqi nation is standing by the army and volunteer forces on the battlefield against the foreign terrorists, adding that the United States “has no place in the country’s future.”

The ISIL sent its Takfiri militants into Iraq in June, seizing large swathes of land straddling the border between Syria and Iraq.

The extremist group has threatened all communities during its advances in the violence-torn Arab state.

Iran has said, on numerous occasions, that it does not engage in military acts in Iraq, but only provides advice to the Baghdad government in the fight against militants.
