Iran: Lifting the US embargo is a starting point for the upcoming negotiations in Vienna

Tehran (ST): The Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed that lifting the illeg that lifting the illegal US embargo on Iran is the starting point for the next round of the meeting of the Joint Committee on the Nuclear Agreement in Vienna.

 

In response to a question about the West’s insistence on resuming the Vienna negotiations from the point at which they ended in the sixth round, Ali Bagheri Kani, the Iranian assistant foreign minister for political affairs, in a statement to IRNA said that the basis of the issue we are talking about is the violation of the nuclear agreement by the Americans, specifically Resolution 2231 issued For the UN Security Council.

Bagheri Kani added: Iran was and still is committed to the agreement, and accordingly, the issue that should be decided in a first stage is the abolition of the illegal US embargo against the Iranian people and it should be on the agenda.

The UN Security Council unanimously adopted in 2015 by resolution 2231 the comprehensive plan of action reached by the signatories to the nuclear agreement in July of the same year, but the previous US administration announced on May 8, 2018, Washington’s withdrawal from the agreement and the reinstatement of sanctions against Tehran is in defiance of the will of the international community and in violation of international resolutions.
