Iran is committed to obligations of (IAEA), says Russian Foreign Ministry

Moscow, (ST) – the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s nonproliferation department, Vladimir Yermakov said on Wednesday that Iran is fulfilling its commitments to the IAEA global nuclear watchdog under the 2015 deal.

“There is a place for different speculations but the main point is that Iran is strictly abiding by IAEA commitments. Media reports that assess it [compliance] can be regarded as speculation,” Vladimir Yermakov said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called last month to work to preserve the nuclear agreement signed with Iran and said that “to ensure the integrity of the comprehensive plan of action signed with Iran, strict implementation of the obligations by all parties concerned, including the European groups ( Troika), is necessary and they should increase efforts significantly in this” direction. ”
It is noteworthy that the countries of the Group of five plus one had signed the nuclear agreement with Iran in 2015 and the United States withdrew from it in 2018 while the three European countries France, Germany and Britain did not fully comply with their obligations under this agreement.
“Russia has obligations under the START treaty and there are no longer legally binding bilateral and multilateral agreements to limit strategic offensive weapons,” Yermakov said.
US President Donald Trump announced early last year that his country had withdrawn from the Intermediate and Short-Range Nuclear Missile Treaty signed by Moscow and Washington over the parties’ destruction of their medium and short-range missile arsenals in 1987, and in response, Moscow announced the suspension of its commitment to the treaty.
