Foreign Minister Moahmmad Javad Zarif said on Tuesday that Iran has sent two letters to EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini to protest the US breach of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, IRNA reported.
He made the remarks in a meeting with members of parliament to give response to six questions over US breach of the nuclear deal by the parliamentary Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy.
One of the letters was sent to her early or middle of the current year when the US House of Representatives was debating a motion to extend Iran Sanctions Act and it led to a meeting of joint commission of Iranian and EU ministers on the sideline of UN General Assembly in New York last September, Zarif said.
The second letter was sent when the US Congress passed a bill to extend ISA, he said.
Zarif said that JCPOA has envisaged a mechanism to follow up any breach of the context of the nuclear deal by either party.
Zarif said that as mentioned by the President, extension of ISA sanctions run counter to the context of JCPOA and the Islamic Republic of Iran would take legal remedies and diplomatic initiatives against the US as per the context of JCPOA in light of the executive orders by the president.
