Iran Envoy Slams EU Approach to Terrorism

Iranian Ambassador to Denmark in a recent Twitter message has criticized Europe’s double standard in its approach toward the fight against terrorism.

Morteza Moradian blasted in his tweet on Saturday, what he described as ‘fighting terrorism European style’.
‘Hosting an array of terrorist groups and ironically imposition of sanctions on the victims of the very same groups and at the same time assuming the gesture of fighting terrorism while using it as a tool, are tantamount to following a double standard policy in dealing with terrorism,’ Moradian wrote.

Such an approach is not acceptable, he reiterated.

‘Europe cannot shrug off its responsibility by making accusations against Iran,’ he added.

Dutch government has accused Iran of directing two political assassinations in the Netherlands, which triggered EU sanctions against Tehran’s military intelligence service.

This is while; Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman condemned European Union’s ‘irrational and surprising decision to sanction some Iranian nationals’, saying this shows that the EU is not honest in its claim to fight terrorism.

‘Instead of putting criminal terror groups, such as the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO, aka MEK) and Alahvazieh, on their sanctions list, the EU gives them a free hand to do their anti-human and terrorist actions and even supports them,’ Bahram Qasemi said.

‘However, they accuse Iran, to whom they owe a lot. Iran is the pioneer of the fight against terrorism and Europe owes its security to Iran,’ he reiterated.
