Iran condemned the US occupation forces’ theft and looting of the Syrian people’s wealth, especially oil products in northeastern Syria.
Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Irvani, made it clear during a session of the Security Council on Syria that ending the occupation and respecting full national sovereignty over Syrian territory is a prerequisite for any political solution to the crisis in Syria, pointing out that any military action in northern Syria will only lead to an exacerbation of the humanitarian situation there.
Irvani stressed that terrorism still poses a serious threat to Syria and the entire region. Nevertheless, the war against terrorism should not be used as an excuse to undermine the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, pointing out that the illegal presence of foreign forces in some Syrian regions has created ideal conditions for terrorist activities that must stop immediately.
Irvani also condemned the unilateral coercive Western economic measures imposed on the Syrian people, noting that these measures led to the suffering of the Syrians and the exacerbation of the humanitarian situation in Syria.
Irvani pointed out that the report of the Secretary-General of the United Nations highlighted the negative effects of these illegal measures, and expressed his deep concern about their repercussions on the delivery of humanitarian aid and basic services such as health, education, food and electricity in Syria.
Irvani also criticized the international silence regarding the repeated Israeli aggressions on Syrian territory, stressing that Iran supports the return of Syria to its regional position and the strengthening of Iranian-Syrian relations more than in the past.
