Iran condemns the draft decision to terminate its membership in the UN Commission on the Status of Women

On December 14th, Iran strongly condemned the draft decision to terminate its membership in the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).

Iran called on members of the Economic and Social Council of the international organization to vote against this project.

Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Erwani, said during a UN meeting: “The counter-draft resolution is one of America’s anti-Tehran policies aimed at preventing the progress of Iranians, especially women and girls, who have proven superiority and competence in all fields.”

He said that his country has become a member of the Committee for the Protection of Women’s Rights through transparent and democratic elections and with the support of the Asia-Pacific Group after winning 43 votes out of 54 countries.

The ambassador emphasized that Iranian women and girls will continue to participate in international forums whether Iran is on the UN Women’s Rights Committee or not.
