Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham on Wednesday called the international organizations to take immediate action to stop spread of terrorism in the Middle East, IRNA reported.

She said that the international community must take collective steps to thwart the menace of terrorism in the region.

She said in her weekly press briefing that Iran is seriously concerned about escalation of terrorism in Iraq.

She said that unfortunately, all have witnessed a devastating terrorist operations in various parts of Iraq and the extremist forces have targeted cities and villages, a reference to Daesh militants.

The Iraqi people and its army could successfully control the terrorists and it is expected through collective convergence of Iraqi nation the issue to be uprooted as soon as possible.

Iran believes that the issue of terrorism would go beyond borders and that they are not limited to one specific region, she said.

She said that terrorism is on rise in the region, therefore, the countries in the region and international organizations must cooperate to thwart the dangerous threat.

She warned that terrorism is an anti-human phenomenon and should be eradicated at the earliest and any support to them will leave negative consequences.

ˈWe have not received any call from Iraq to seek our help in their struggle with terrorismˈ, she said.

ˈWe believe that the Iraqi people are powerful enough to resolve the issue alone,ˈ Afkham said.

Of course, it is the responsibility of the United Nations member states to help the international campaign against terrorism, she said.
