Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Majid Takht Ravanchi, has reiterated the necessity of the balanced, full and non-discriminatory implementation of banning the use of Chemical weapons in the world.
During a session of the UN Security Council on Monday, Ravanchi made it clear that the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the UN Security Council have used the question of banning the use of using chemical weapons to accuse Syria on the basis of groundless allegations.
He pointed out that these accusations are being made despite assurances that Syria fulfilled all its obligations which led to the destruction of its entire chemical stockpile and that was also confirmed by the OPCW itself.
“Now, these facts as well as the Syrian government’s significant cooperation with the OPCW and the UN in this regard are being neglected,” the Iranian official said.
He added that such behavior represents “unconstructive Policy” that would undermine the position of the Security Council and OPCW’s professionalism and weaken the decision-making process.
