Damascus (ST): The investment opportunities in agriculture, industry, tourism, housing, and investment in human capital were the most prominent topics of the Latent Investment Opportunities Forum in the Syrian Economy, which was organized by the Faculty of Administrative Sciences at Al-Sham Private University in partnership with the Arab Union of Productive Families and Craft and Traditional Industries at the Dama Rose Hotel in Damascus, with the participation of Specialists in economic and development fields.
Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, pointed out in a speech that scientific research is currently gaining double importance in Syria in light of the unjust siege, indicating that the forum brings together participants and researchers from various academic and governmental institutions, economic actors, unions, and local, Arab, and even international professional federations, with the aim of exchanging experiences. He presented the most important challenges facing the Syrian economy in the post-war period.
In turn, Dr. Hassan Khaiti, Deputy Secretary-General of the Arab Union of Productive Families, Crafts and Traditional Industries, confirmed that the Union is working to invest in human resources by building the legal foundation, concluding agreements, partnerships and memorandums of understanding with public and private bodies, activating the lending mechanism for micro-projects, and adopting initiatives and innovations of all kinds and supporting production methods and tools, in addition to holding local, regional and Arab exhibitions, in a way that creates and provides supportive opportunities for limited-income productive families.
Dr. Sherif Al-Ashqar, President of Al-Sham Private University, said that moving from the stage of coordination and cooperation to the stage of true partnership between sectors leads to introducing and encouraging initiatives, given the availability of the desire and ability to persevere, seize opportunities, and innovate solutions.
In his intervention, the Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Engineer Muhammad Hassan Qatna, underlined the importance of networking between the agricultural, industrial and commercial sectors, and investing in the opportunities inherent in agricultural industrialization and the food and processing industries, referring to the necessity of marketing manufactured or fresh Syrian products in global markets based on forward-looking studies of the needs of these markets and take of the advantage of our products with specifications, quantities and appropriate dates for supply.
