Invasion of Iraq and the occupation of Baghdad are a disgrace in history of America and its Western allies

After years of false Western allegations uttered by America about Iraq’s possession of weapons of mass destruction, the United States and its partner Britain carried out the military invasion to occupy this country and plunder its wealth in 2003. The invading forces entered the capital, Baghdad, on this day of that year, about three weeks after the start of the war on Iraq.

The entry of the American and allied forces into Baghdad on the ninth of April 2003 marked the beginning of a dark page in the history of Iraq imposed by the Anglo-American occupation, which left more than a million dead, hundreds of thousands injured, and displaced about five million people, in addition to massive material losses and massive destruction of vital infrastructure and facilities according to international statistics.

After the beginning of the era of the American occupation of Iraq, the country entered a phase of political and security instability and witnessed thousands of terrorist bombings with cars, booby-trapped vehicles, suicide bombers, etc. This occupation claimed the lives of tens of thousands of innocent civilians, in addition to the destruction, devastation and displacement caused by the deteriorating security conditions. In turn, terrorist organizations such as Al-Qaeda and later (ISIS), which have also wreaked havoc throughout the country, spread during the Anglo-American occupation period.

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who with former US President George W. Bush led the war on Iraq, admitted in 2015 that the decision to wage war on Iraq and occupy this country, which Washington had taken and supported by his country, was “wrong”. He also admitted that the invasion of Iraq was a major reason for the growth of the ISIS terrorist organization.

The then former US Secretary of State, Colin Powell, who was the “godfather” of the American lie, admitted after years of war that his defense of his country’s report on Iraq’s alleged weapons of mass destruction before the United Nations was a “disgrace” in his political career and considered that it was painful for him.

Former US President Donald Trump noted in an interview with the New York Post in 2020 that the 2003 invasion of Iraq was the worst decision in the history of the United States, saying: “We spent $8 billion on the worst decision.”

Press reports confirmed that the real reasons for the enthusiasm of the American and British governments for the occupation of Iraq lie in seizing Iraq’s oil wealth, as those reports spoke of incitement to the invasion by officials of large American oil companies, including Halliburton Oil Group.  British government secret documents pointed to a strong relationship with companies and oil institutions in the process of invading Iraq.

Head of the Iraqi Al-Hal Party, Dr. Jamal Karbouli, asserted that the painful memory of the occupation of Baghdad represents a deep wound in the human conscience. For this reason, today we are in dire need of a transient national project that restores the comprehensive Iraqi homeland away from any other names.

Retired Iraqi Rear Admiral Imad Alo indicated, during press statements, that the Iraqis today remember the crimes committed by Washington, which emerged clearly in the violations of the American security company Blackwater in Al-Nisour Square in Baghdad, which claimed the lives of dozens of innocent people. He stressed that they will not be able to forget the scandals committed by American soldiers in the prisons of  Bucca and  Abu Ghraib and in many other Iraqi cities.

19 years after the occupation of Baghdad, the invasion of Iraq is still a disgrace in the history of the United States and its Western allies, which is full of wars, interference in the affairs of other countries, creating crises, imposing sanctions, and supporting, sponsoring and directing terrorism against countries that do not conform to their whims, as happened in Syria and other countries in the region.
