International silence worsens humanitarian situation in Gaza
In 2007, the Israeli occupation authorities changed the Gaza Strip into an open prison by imposing a tight siege on it making life very difficult for the Palestinians. The siege has had a disastrous impact on the humanitarian and economic situation in the impoverished enclave. Moreover, the occupation authorities launched aggressive attacks killing hundreds of Palestinians and wounding thousands not to mention the savage destruction of the infrastructure. But the current offensive was the most barbarous since it resulted in the death of more than 1900 Palestinians, the wounding of 9300 others and the destruction of all the Gaza Strip. Israel is currently committing the most barbarous and the ugliest brutalities against the defenseless Palestinians in the Gaza Strip capitalizing on the international silence towards these crimes.
The member states of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) should suspend their membership in the international body in protest of its silence on Israel’s crimes in Gaza. The Islamic countries’ silence regarding Israel’s heinous atrocities in Gaza is disgraceful. Israeli warplanes have been pounding numerous sites in the Gaza Strip since July 8, demolishing houses and burying families under the rubble. Israeli forces also began a ground offensive against the impoverished Palestinian land on July 17 committing atrocious massacres but the US and EU states kept silent and did not condemn any of the war crimes being committed daily in the Strip.
Most of the casualties of the Israeli aggression are civilians, including a large number of women and children. The United States is the main accomplice in the Israeli war crimes in the Gaza Strip. In all this bloodshed in Gaza by the Zionist regime, the US is the main accomplice because all the defense equipment and policies of this regime are US-made. From the very beginning of the Israeli offensive, the US officials’ only task was to find justifications for the unjustifiable Israeli aggression and atrocities. The biased remarks in favor of the apartheid Zionist regime have made it more impudent in the killing of women and children.
The humanitarian situation in the besieged Gaza Strip is worsening as scores of bodies are under rubble amid Israel’s merciless attacks on the blockaded area. The dead bodies under rubble have intensified water and power crises in the blockaded territory. The dead bodies under rubble can be the source of numerous diseases and infections as the area is densely populated. The hot weather in Gaza at this time of the year and lack of appropriate facilities for keeping the dead bodies have deteriorated the situation there.
Hospitals in Gaza are in desperate need of help, including medicines and equipment. Even hospitals and schools were one of the main targets of brutal Israeli air raids.
The Zionist regime is an exhaustive reflection of the violation of human rights and the rights of women and children; and the innocence of Palestinian women and children has been proven to the world during the current war on Gaza. While Israel has never believed in human rights and international conventions, the Western countries always support Tel Aviv in whatever it does. None of the 232 United Nations resolutions, 35 UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolutions against Israel have ever been implemented.
Providing medical access to women, children and those in agony is without a doubt the least of the responsibilities of international organizations that claim to defend human rights and dignity.
Water and food supplies in the besieged Gaza Strip are dangerously low. More than 150,000 Gazans have been forced out of their homes and have nowhere to go due to Israeli-imposed blockade of the coastal enclave.
The terrible toll on civilians is shocking. Hospitals and water supplies are under massive strain and the needs are increasing by the day. People are fleeing terrified. There was no way for the displaced to escape the violence in the densely-populated Strip. If the international community has any sense of credibility, it should work for immediately ending the blockade and the collective punishment of people in Gaza. One million are left without water as raw sewage could pollute the remaining water due to the destruction of sanitation plants.
The Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are suffering from the most atrocious mass killing operation. Palestinians in the besieged Strip are facing the atrocious mass killing operation by the brutal racist Israeli occupation, which is violating all international laws. The world has been witnessing the most tragic crime against humanity in the murdering of children, women and innocent civilians in Gaza.
