International Response to the Fight against Terrorism Remained Inadequate, Subject to Wrong Policies – Al-Lahham
New York, (ST)-The international response to the fight against terrorism remained inadequate, limited and subject to wrong policies, Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly (PA) Mohammad Jihad al-Laham has stressed addressing participants in the Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments meeting at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Al-Lahham said that the stances of western states and some neighboring countries, which keep supporting terrorism and armed takfiri terrorist organizations, have been far from commitment to the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions, including resolutions NOs.1373, 2170 and 2178.
The PA Speaker urged the world’s parliaments to work as to stop “the terrorist madness invading the world and to halt the terrorist war which is being waged by takfiri tools and mercenaries coming from 83 countries to destroy the Syrian state and displace its people.”
He said that the world has started to feel the coming danger and to talk about fighting terrorism as a priority as it has acknowledged the danger of terrorism expansion towards Europe and other parts of the world after the crimes of the terrorist organizations against the people, social diversity and cultural heritage in Syria and Iraq have been uncovered to the entire world.
“International response to the fight against terrorism, however, remained inadequate, limited and subject to wrong policies and the stances of western states and some neighboring countries, have been far from commitment to the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions, including resolutions NOs.1373, 2170 and 2178,” he added.
“We repeat our calls on the world’s parliaments and governments to adopt responsible stances on confronting takfiri terrorism in order to protect the future of the world’s people and children from the terrorists,” he said.
Al-Lahham asserted that fighting terrorism is a Syrian priority and it should be regional and international priority as an introduction to a political solution in Syria based on national charter, on forming national consensus government and on the return of displaced Syrian people.
“What is going on in Syria and Iraq may reach your countries unless we all have true will to work together as to uproot terrorism,” he affirmed.
