International condemnation of the Israeli occupation’s targeting of UN employees in Gaza

The European Union’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell condemned the Israeli occupation’s targeting of UN staff in Gaza, describing the incident as horrific.

In a post on the X platform, commenting on the Israeli occupation forces’ bombing yesterday of a school housing displaced Palestinians in Nuseirat in central Gaza, which led to the martyrdom of 18 people, including UNRWA employees, Borrell said: “Disregarding the basic principles of international humanitarian law, especially the protection of civilians, cannot and should not be accepted by the international community.”For its part, Germany considered the targeting of six UN staff in Gaza to be absolutely unacceptable, calling for “the protection of UN staff and relief workers.”

The German Foreign Ministry said in a statement: “Humanitarian aid workers should never be victims of rockets,” noting that UNRWA provides vital assistance in Gaza, and has a mandate from the United Nations to do so, and therefore its employees must be protected.
