International Community Should Support President Al-Assad’s Legitimate Leadership to Solve Crisis in Syria, Says European MP
WARSAW, (ST)-Leader of Poland’s Congress of the New Right and Member of the European Parliament Janusz Korwin-Mikke has stressed his strong support for the Syrian government in its confrontation of the terrorism Syria has been facing for more than three years.
Mikke, who was speaking on Tuesday to the Syrian Charge d’affaires in Warsaw Idris Mayya, said the only solution to the crisis in Syria is represented by the international community’s support for the Syrian legitimate leadership of President Bashar Al-Assad.
He expressed his readiness to do his best to explain what is really going on in Syria to his colleagues at the European Union.
On his recent visit to Damascus where he took part in the International Conference on Combating Terrorism and Extremism, Mikke affirmed that the situation in Damascus was stable and secure. He pointed out that talking to many Syrians he felt that they support their government.
On his part, the Syrian Charge d’affaires talked about the danger posed by the armed terrorist groups not only to Syria, but to the region and the entire world. He explained the dirty role played by Israel in supporting the terrorist organizations as stressed by the United Nations.
He also talked to Mikke about Turkey’s negative stance on the crisis in Syria and about the Turkish constant support for the terrorist groups.
In the same context, Mikke told the Polish TV Channel yesterday that the extremist groups operating in Syria are terrorist organizations that have destroyed the Syrian civilization, which dates back to thousands of years, and have distorted the real image of Islam.
He said the Syrian economy is open and it has witnessed great development since 2000.
In an earlier statement in Damascus addressing the Syrians, Mikke said “civilization is based on the concept of sovereignty and you in Syria are lucky because you have got both sovereignty and democracy.”
