Interior Minister: 40 People Martyred, Some 120 Others Injured In Damascus Terror Blasts

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The two terrorist blasts, which rocked Bab al-Saghir area in Damascus on Saturday and targeted visitors of different Arab nationalities, claimed the lives of 40 people and injured some 120 others including visitors and passersby, Interior Minister Mohammad al-Sha’ar told reporters as he was inspecting the explosions’ sites.

A committee was formed to investigate the horrible incident and collect facts about the nature of the terror explosions, the perpetrators and the area from where the terrorist came, according to the minister.  

 He reiterated the need to adopt more strict measures to prevent targeting citizens.

Al-Sha’ar visited the wounded persons, who were transferred to al-Mujtahed and al-Mouwast Hospitals, to check their health conditions. He hailed the efforts being exerted by the medical staff of the two hospitals to provide treatment and necessary health services to the victims.

The Iraqi Ambassador to Syria, in addition to the Syrian Minster of Tourism, Damascus Police Command and the Attorney General in Damascus accompanied the Interior minister in his tour.

Earlier in the day, a source at Damascus Police Command told SANA that  at least 33 civilians were martyred and more than 100 others were injured in the two terrorist bombings that took place Saturday afternoon in Bab Mousalla area in Damascus city.

According to the source, the terrorists detonated two explosive devices near Bab al-Saghir cemetery, located in the area between Bab Mousalla and Bab Al-Jabiah, inflicting material damage on private and public properties.
