Information Minister Hails Russia’s Effective Assistance to Syrian Army in Fight against Terrorism

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Information Minister Mohammed Ramez Turgeman has hailed Russia’s support for the Syrian Arab Army in its battle against terrorism, stressing that this effective support has contributed to the defeat of terrorist organizations in several areas across Syria.

Interviewed by the Russian Sputnik news agency published on Friday, Turjeman said “Syria is facing a terrorist aggression that targets its existence as a unified independent state,” expressing confidence in Russia’s firm stance and determination to provide necessary support for Syria in the face of this aggression despite the West’s arrogance.

“The continuity of the Russian support for Syria is not strange, because Russia is a great state with heavy international weight and with a key role in maintaining and protecting world peace and stability against extremism,” the minister said.

He added that the aggressive statements made against Russia and Syria by western officials were a result of the achievements being made by the Syrian army, supported by the Russian air forces,  in its battle against the terrorist takfiri groups in Aleppo.

Turgeman pointed out that the Russian support for the Syrian state “is not only logistic, military and humanitarian. It also includes the information sphere as Syria is facing a misleading media campaign based on reporting distorted facts in world and Arab media and media empires, which are engaged in forgery and falsification, about what is happening in Syria. Therefore, Russia’s information assistance has come in order to demonstrate the truth to the whole world.”

On September 30, 2015 Russia, under a request from Syria, started its airstrikes against “ISIS” and “Jabhat al-Nusra” terrorist organizations in Syria to provide support for the Syrian Arab Army in its fight against terrorism.
