Indonesian Ambassador stresses his country’s support for Syria in the face of earthquake repercussions

The meeting, held on Monday between the Governor of Lattakia Amer Hilal and the Indonesian Ambassador to Syria Wajid Fauzi, focused on the extent of the damage the province has suffered as a result of the earthquake, and on the requirements of the humanitarian response to face the repercussions of this disaster.

Ambassador Wajid Fauzi offered his condolences over the victims of the earthquake. He pointed out that his country stands by Syria in the face of the repercussions of this disaster, saying: “We have worked since the first day of the earthquake to collect relief aid and send it to a temporary shelter center in Lattakia where we were closely acquainted with the damage caused by the earthquake and with the situation of affected families in this center”.

The ambassador stated that aid provision should be a long-term process as it  requires great efforts, expressing his hope that the Syrian people will overcome the repercussions of this disaster and be able to rebuild what has been destroyed by the earthquake.

For his part, Governor Hilal explained the extent of destruction in the residential buildings and the casualties and injuries that resulted. He said that thousands of families have left their homes to shelter centers or to the homes of their relatives and, noting the massive pressure the health sector is currently facing because of the big number of injuries and the lack of medical equipment.

Hilal thanked Ambassador Fauzi and his country for providing support to those affected by the earthquake, and highly appreciated Indonesia’s stances in support of Syria especially during its war on terrorism.
