Indian journalists: Parliamentary elections in Syria are important in enhancing the Syrian people’s victory in war against terrorism
NEW DELHI, (ST)- A number of Indian journalists and diplomats have affirmed that the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Syria are important in enhancing the victory of the Syrian people in their war against terrorism and they indicate the Syrians’ determination to exercise their democratic rights and return to normal life.
John Cherian, the senior editor in the “Frontline” Magazine, said in a statement that the Syrian parliamentary elections are a strong indication that the Syrian people completely reject all division schemes. He stressed that the Syrians will emerge victorious.
Elections prove that Syria is able to press ahead with the effort to attain stability despite the severe restrictions that have resulted from foreign interference in its internal affairs, particularly the so-called “Caesar Act” which aims at impeding the country’s economic recovery, Cherian made it clear.
On his part, the Chief Editor of “Hardnews” Magazine Sanjay Kapoor, said that the elections of the Syrian People’s Assembly mean voting in favor of peace against terrorism and they constitute an important step to restore the country’s normal situation.
Huma Siddiqui, a journalist in the Financial Express, affirmed that the elections affirm democracy in Syria, the country that has been fighting terrorism and confronting coercive measures for years and is now holding elections within the most critical circumstances represented in the global fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.
Indian diplomat Niraj Serivasta asserted that the elections prove that Syria is a democratic country where people elect their representatives in a free and democratic process.
