Indian Diplomat: Only the Syrian people have the right to decide the future of their country

New Delhi (ST): Former Indian diplomat Anil Trigonayat, a member of the Vivekananda International Foundation for Strategic Studies, affirmed that the Syrian people alone have the right to decide the future of their country.

In an interview with news correspondent in India about the upcoming presidential elections in Syria, Trigonayat said that the Syrian leadership has adhered to this democratic process despite serious challenges, stressing that the elections are a Syrian sovereign affair and the Syrian people have the right to exercise their role in them, liberate their land from terrorism, and rebuild their country away from any external intervention to ensure the preservation of the unity and sovereignty of the country, indicating the need for international assistance in the reconstruction process.

He also noted that the unilateral Western coercive measures imposed on Syria are illegal and will increase the suffering of the Syrian people, stressing that India has always stood by Syria.
