India reaffirms support for Syria’s war on terrorism, readiness to take part in Syria’s reconstruction process

NEW DELHI, (ST)- Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has reaffirmed his country’s full support for Syria’s war on terrorism and its readiness to participate in the country’s process of reconstruction.

During his meeting on Wednesday with member of the Central Leadership of the Baath Arab Socialist Party Muhsen Bilal, Jaishankar reiterated the need to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria by the Syrians themselves without foreign interference.

He said that India is willing to take part in Syria’s reconstruction process, pointing out that preparations are almost completed to sign the memorandum of understanding and cooperation agreements between India and Syria during the meeting of the joint Syrian-Indian committee in March 2020.

 On his part, Bilal said that Syria thanks the Indian government and people for their support, stressing that Syria has been able with the support of its allies and friends to eliminate terrorism in most Syrian areas.

 He pointed out that Syria welcomes the participation of friendly countries such as India in the country’s reconstruction process, mainly in the areas of enhancing education, enhancing skills and qualifying Syrian cadres that can play an active role in rebuilding their country.

Bilal, also met with India’s Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu who emphasized his country’s rejection of any foreign interference in Syria’s internal affairs, its keenness on preserving Syria’s territorial integrity and its support for political solution to the crisis in the country.

 He reiterated the need to uproot terrorism because it is a plague that threatens all humanity, expressing hope that security and stability will be restored soon all over Syria.

Bilal, on his part, asserted that Syria will triumph in its war on terrorism, pointing out that security and stability will be restored to all parts of Syria with the help of Syria’s friends and allies.

Bilal started on Wednesday a week-long visit to India where he will hold talks with senior Indian officials and heads of national Indian parties.
