The October International Open Water Swimming Race kicks off tomorrow

 On November 15, the Ministry of Tourism honored the delegations participating in the Tishreen (October) International Open Water Swimming Race, which will start tomorrow on Lamira Beach in Lattakia.

The Minister of Tourism Muhammad Rami Radwan Martini said that this event organized by the General Sports Federation is an indication of the return of the international championships to Syria.

Martini indicated that sports activity is an essential part of promoting tourism and it reflects at the same time the civilized image of Syria.

The Secretary of the Arab Socialist Baath Party branch in Latakia, Haitham Ismail, stated that Syria embraces athletes from eleven countries and is proving that it is able to organize international championships.

Syria takes part in Arab Football Academies Championship in Cairo

Cairo (ST): The Championship of the Arab Football Academies was opened at the Olympic Centre in Cairo with the participation of Syria.

Members of the Syrian community in Egypt and Syrian students studying in Egypt flocked to the Centre to encourage the Syrian team which won its first match against its Yemeni Counterpart 2 to 1.

The Charge’d Affairs of the Syrian embassy in Cairo said that the Syrian participation reflects the keenness of the Syrian expatriates to hoist the Syrian flag high in all arenas.

Director of the Syrian team Captain Anas al-Hosari said that Syria’s participation in the tournament affirms to all that the Syrian flag will always fly high at all championships.

Homs: Cycling race held to raise awareness for early detection of cancer

Homs (ST): The branch of the Syrian Society for Combatting Cancer in Homs concluded their activities related to raising the awareness towards breast cancer ( the Pink Month activities) by holding a cycling race with the participation of youths from various areas in the governorate.

The race started from the New Clock Square in the centre of the city. The participants toured many neighborhoods in the city including Ekrema, al-Dablan and al-Ghouta before returning to the starting point where symbolic gifts were distributed to the participants.

A number of the participants said that these activities prove the effective role played by youth in society, stressing that the event aimed to call for preserving people’s health and combatting cancer.

Chairman of the Syrian Society for Combatting Cancer, Homs Branch, Dr. Zahi al-Shawaf said that several activities were held in the city including lectures and workshops to raise the awareness of people towards the importance of early detection of cancer.

“Let’s walk together and Defy Cancer” a marathon launched to raise awareness about early detection of breast cancer

Damascus (ST): “Let’s walk together and Defy Cancer” is the name of a marathon launched this morning with the participation of civil and youth groups to increase awareness about the early detection of breast cancer. The marathon started from al-Jalaa Sports Club in Damascus towards the al-Akram Mosque on Mazzeh highway, from which the participants headed to its last stop in the Umayyad Square.

Muhammed al-Shawi, the official in charge of administrative affairs in the company said that the event was organized by the Syrian Company for Crafts ( one of the programs of the Syrian Trust for Development ) in cooperation with the Governorate of Damascus.

He added that the marathon comes as part of the National Plan for Cancer Control and the activities of the Pink Month that occur in October every year, and the proceeds of the marathon will be devoted to support those affected by the fires that recently erupted in a number of governorates.
