Increasing The Proportions of Cultivated Areas With Wheat and Barely in Homs After Rainfall

Homs (ST) – The area cultivated with irrigated wheat for the current agricultural season has reached 6,646 hectares out of the total planned area of 17,420 hectares.

The Director of Homs Agriculture, Eng. Younes Hamdan, explained that the rains witnessed by all regions in the governorate recently contributed in increasing the percentage cultivated areas of the various winter crops, compared to what was scheduled to be implemented during the current period.

The area cultivated with rain-fed wheat exceeded 7 thousand hectares out of the planned area of about 21,804 hectares.

Hamdan pointed out that the area cultivated with irrigated barley, which is nearing completion, amounted to 439 out of 529 hectares, in addition to cultivating more than 17 thousand hectares with rain-fed barely out of 38,203 hectares.

The Directorate of Agriculture had increased the planned area of irrigated wheat for the current season by about 5 thousand hectares over the planned area for the last season, with the aim of obtaining abundant production of the crop.

It is noteworthy that during the last agriculture season, more than 52 thousand tons of wheat were marketed to grain receiving centers in the governorate.
