Astana (ST): The summit of heads of state of the Commonwealth of Independent States kicked off in the Kazakh capital, Astana, in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Turkmen President Sardar Berdymukhamedov, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Kyrgyz President Sadir Gabarov, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon will participate in the summit.
In his opening speech, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev indicated that this summit, which is being held in its regular session, will have a number of important issues on its agenda, most notably humanitarian issues, as well as security, and the strengthening of cooperation among the member states of the organization.
