In cooperation with the Syrian side, the Iraqi anti-drug forces dismantle an international drug smuggling network

Baghdad (ST): The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced that, in coordination with the Syrian side, an international drug smuggling network to and from Iraq has been dismantled.

The ministry said in a statement it posted on its Facebook page: “In coordination and cooperation with the Syrian side, the General Directorate for Narcotics Affairs dismantled an international network for smuggling drugs to and from Iraq.”

The statement added that, under the direct supervision of the Minister of Interior, Abd al-Amir al-Shammari, the General Directorate of Narcotics Affairs, in coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Department of the Syrian Ministry of Interior, carried out a qualitative operation that resulted in the dismantling of an international drug smuggling network, with 11 kilograms of narcotics (Crystal Captagon) seized.

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior stated that after the formation of a specialized work team from the General Directorate of Narcotics Affairs and the specialized security services in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, based on the intelligence information received from the Syrian side, the accused were arrested by a judicial decision for the crime of international drug trafficking.

It is noteworthy that the exchange of information took place in accordance with the International Convention on Drug Control.

The Iraqi side appreciated the role of the Syrian Ministry of Interior and its cooperation with the aim of arresting drug dealers and dismantling their networks.
