The General Assembly of the International Center for the Study of the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) honored the martyr archaeologist Dr. Khaled Al-Asa’ad, who was executed by the Daesh terrorist organization in Palmyra in August 2015.
During its thirty-first session held in Rome, ICCROM said that Dr. Al-Asaad spent more than 50 years protecting his noble Syrian antiquities and working on the Palmyra archaeological site before he was brutally assassinated by Daesh terrorists.
“The life and values of the late al-Asa’ad is a great example to be followed by everyone,” ICCROM said.
At the honoring ceremony, Khalid al-Asa’ad’s son delivered a televised message in which he thanked the General Assembly of the International Center for the Study of the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM).
He said: “Without history, humanity has no present and future,”
Representatives of 137 Member States of ICCROM and observers from non-Member States, intergovernmental organizations and other partner institutions participated in the thirty-first session.
They discussed the strategic directions and plan of the ICCROM over the past two years and welcomed the new Member, Costa Rica.
ICCROM was founded as a result of the catastrophic effects of World War II and officially began its activity in Rome in March 1959.
