Hussein: Western coercive economic measures affect the Syrian people and the Palestinian refugees, and they must be lifted

Cairo (ST): Qassem Hussein, Director General of the General Authority for Palestinian Refugees, confirmed that the Western coercive economic measures imposed on Syria affect its people and the Palestinian refugees, and they must be lifted.

Hussein, who heads the Syrian delegation to the Conference of Supervisors of Palestinian Affairs in the Arab host countries, which opened yesterday at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo, explained that the conference is taking place in conjunction with very dangerous circumstances, as the Palestinian people are still subjected to unjust siege and Israeli aggression, the continuation of killings, destruction, extermination, and violation of sanctities, the most recent of which was the aggression against Jenin and its camp in the West Bank, during which 12 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured, in addition to the destruction of hundreds of homes.

Hussein said: Syria strongly condemns the Israeli occupation’s war of extermination against the Palestinian people, their land and infrastructure, and the continuation of the establishment of settlement colonies, calling on the Arab League to exercise its role in addressing all Arab issues and addressing the international community, for immediate intervention to stop the blockade and aggression.

He added that the international community should pursue Zionist war criminals and impose the harshest penalties against them, and work for the withdrawal of Israel from all the occupied Arab lands in Palestine and the Golan to the lines of June 4, 1967, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital, and the return of all Palestinian refugees to their homes from which they were expelled in 1948.

The Director of the General Authority for Palestinian Arab Refugees pointed out that there are many miserable attempts by various parties, aimed at eliminating the issue of Palestinian refugees and their return to their homes, and at reducing financial support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in order to undermine its role and end its tasks.
