Hundreds of displaced families return to their houses in Yarmouk camp in Damascus

DAMASCUS, (ST)_ Thousands of displaced Palestinians and Syrians have returned to Yarmouk area in Damascus after rehabilitating the area that was damaged by terrorist group’s attacks.
 
This step comes within the framework of efforts exerted to return displaced people to their towns and cities, which have been liberated from terrorist groups. 
 
Al-Yarmouk area was destroyed as a result of acts of terrorism carried out by ISIS and  Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organizations, which  had targeted hospitals, public schools, and UNRWA schools, in addition to houses of Palestinian refugees and Syrian citizens, who  lived together in al-Yarmouk camp ,which was established in 1957 as a symbol of the right of return.
 
Secretary General of the Palestinian Popular Struggle Front, Khaled Abd al-Majid told the Syrian News Agency (SANA): “After liberating the camp and preparing all conditions for the return of the Palestinians and the Syrians to their houses , the procedures have been taken to protect the civilians’ properties.”
 
“Around 700 families have returned to the area, among them hundreds of students who are provided with transportation to schools in the neighborhoods, in parallel with providing facilities, including infrastructure and service workshops to rehabilitate water, electricity and sewage networks as soon as possible,” Abd al-Majid added.
 
He referred to necessity of the contribution of  UNRWA and the Palestinian factions to rehabilitating schools and health centers which were destroyed by terrorism.
 
For his part, Abdul Hadi Rajih who is responsible for rehabilitating the water networks asserted that the water networks have been rehabilitated. 
 
Earlier, Damascus Governorate rehabilitated a water pumping station in the “Thirty” Street, with13 wells equipped for pumping water, in addition to removing debris from the main and sub-side streets , and rehabilitating the sewage network.
 
“We returned to our houses in the camp after they were cleared from the remnants of terrorists,” the Palestinian citizen  Hani Omar Husseinm who is originally from al-Nasirah town said.
 
For his part,, Taleb Mohammed Kinaan affirmed that he will return to his house with his family as the repair of electricity and sewage networks have been completed. He thanked the circles which provide all  facilities for the return of the people to Yarmouk area.
 
40% of houses in the camp are habitable, and another 40% of houses necessitate rehabilitation while 20% of them are completely destroyed.
