HRW: Trump Violating Int’l Law on Golan

The international human rights watchdog has slammed US President Donald Trump for violating international laws on the Syrian occupied Golan.

President Trump appears poised to drive a wrecking ball through the international law that protects the population of the occupied Golan,” said Eric Goldstein, deputy Middle East and North Africa director at Human Rights Watch, in a reference to the president’s tweet on an imminent decision to recognize the Golan as a part of Israel.

The area was occupied by the Zionist regime of Israel in 1967 war, and annexed it to other occupied territories in 1981. The United Nations was renounced as ‘null and void and without international legal effect’.

The Human Rights Watch in the statement on Monday emphasized that no state can change the status of the occupied Golan and the Syrian people residing there.

Israeli regime has established a number of settlements in the Golan and has settled thousands of Israelis. The moves have been condemned by UN and other human rights groups across the world.
