The honoring ceremony of the winners of the 21st session of the Al-Basel Exhibition for Creativity and Invention, which was organized by the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection in cooperation with a number of ministries and supporting and incubating bodies, was held today in the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Damascus.
The prizes for the Vanguards and Youth Organizations and People with Disabilities Institutions were set at 3 million Syrian pounds for the first, 2 million for the second, and 1 million for the third.
The awards for individual projects were distributed on six axes. The first prize was 5 million, the second was 4 million, and the third was 3 million. the axes are medicine, environment, agriculture, Industry, technology and alternative energy.
In a speech he delivered at the ceremony, Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Mohsen Abdel Karim Ali affirmed the ministry’s efforts to support innovators and inventors, indicating that the exhibition reflects the requirements of the modern era and the challenges of finding solutions to the shortage of resources and of developing industry, technology and services.
The minister called for concerted efforts by the government and the local community efforts and the business incubators to provide a supportive environment for innovators and inventors that helps them develop their innovations.
Chairman of the Syrian Inventors Association, Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Wardeh, stated that inventors and innovators represent a true national wealth for Syria, noting the governmental efforts exerted to support innovators and inventors.
During the ceremony, a documentary film about Al-Basel Exhibition was screened, and artistic and folkloric performances by two bands from the Vanguard and Youth Organizations were presented.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Industry, Dr. Abdul Qadir Joukhadar, the Minister of Education, Dr. Muhammad Amer Al-Mardini, the Governor of Damascus, Engineer Muhammad Tariq Krishati, Rector and students of the University of Damascus as well as cultural, commercial, industrial, and scientific figures.
