In recognition of his achievement in the Tokyo Olympics and raising the Syrian flag in one of the largest sports forums, the Olympic champion Maan Asaad, who won the bronze medal in weightlifting competition, was honored on August 8th in Al-Jalaa Sports City in Damascus.
Mrs. Manal Al-Assad, Honorary President of the Equestrian Federation, awarded Maan Asaad the Sports Medal which is presented by the Syrian Olympic Committee, according to the Syrian News Agency.
The agency added Maan Asaad and his coach, Qais Asaad, got a financial award ,25 million Syrian pounds, and a shield from the Union of Journalists.
Mrs. Manal Al-Assad stressed the importance of the achievement mafde by the weightlifter Asaad and bringing joy to the hearts of the Syrians, along with many athletes who made important achievements, especially in the difficult circumstances that our country is going through.
Mrs. Manal Al-Assad praised the great efforts made by the athletes to reach the world championships as a Syrian table tennis player Hind Zaza the youngest athlete in the Tokyo Olympics.
For his part, the Olympic champion Asaad affirmed that this achievement is very important for the Syrian sport and constitutes an incentive for him to prepare for the upcoming Olympic merit.
The coach of the Olympic champion and his brother, Qais Asaad, revealed that the next step will be better in terms of training and strategic plans to move forward.
The Minister of Information in the Caretaker Government, Imad Sarah, confirmed in a press statement that what the hero achieved was the happiest of achievement during which the Syrian flag was raised high.
In a speech during the honoring ceremony, the President of the General Sports Federation, Firas Maalla, explained that the bronze medal that Asaad won is different from the previous medals because it came from the womb of the terrorist war that Syria is exposed to.
