Homs commemorated the 1st sit-in at Clock Square

HOMS, Apr.19, (ST)-Last night, the people of Homs commemorated the first sit-in, that was staged 14 years ago, in New Clock Square, which the revolutionaries renamed “Freedom Square.”

More than 90,000 citizens gathered during the sit-in, where the crowds performed the sunset (Maghreb)prayer.

After the prayer, Sheikh Sahel Junaid delivered a speech in which he recalled this blessed memory: the sit-in of the people of Homs at Clock Square 14 years ago, demanding freedom and dignity. Their voices echoed “The people want to bring down the regime.”

He pointed out that this sit-in took place after the city and its countryside held funerals for a number of martyrs of the revolution.

At that time, thousands of people flocked to Clock Square in the center of Homs, after sunset. The crowds included men and women, young and old, academics and intellectuals, workers, merchants, students, clerics, and members of the city’s tribes and its countryside.

Sheikh Junaid clarified that the reason behind the sit-in was to hold funerals for the martyrs who were targeted by the former regime. However, the voice of truth continued to rise and persist until victory came from God Almighty.
