HOMS, Mar.1, (ST)-Homs City Council continues to carry out several service projects in the city, including the rehabilitation of roads, sidewalks, lighting, gardens, squares and markets, in cooperation with civil society and international organizations.
The Council’s head, Eng. Mosaab Al-Saloumi, said in an interview with the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA): “Several projects are being carried out, most of them in cooperation with civil society, and with the support of several international organizations. Among these projects we number the rehabilitation of Andalusia Square and roads, lighting and rapairing sewage networks in several streets within the “Jouret Al-Shiyah” neighborhood. Barriers and concrete blocks are also being removed from the entrance to the city, rubble is being removed, and roads are being opened to facilitate the passage of residents.”
He indicated that a lighting project will soon begin from the northern entrance to the southern entrance of the city, with a length of 10 km, and 600 alternative energy lighting devices have been installed in several streets.
“Work is being done upon a plan that includes the installation of 3,000 devices,” Al-Saloumi said, adding that approximately 10,000 cubic meters of rubble have been removed, and projects are being studied to recycle them into “blocks and interlocks” to avoid their removal.
He noted that the maintenance and rehabilitation of Al-Hamra Gardens, Bab Hood, the garden adjacent to the Immigration and Passports building, Mahmoud Al-Akhras Garden, Al-Ghouta, and Naim Murad have been completed, while a plan has been prepared to rehabilitate Al-Atassi Garden and gardens in Al-Khalidiya neighborhood.
Al-Saloumi added that the rehabilitation of the archaeological markets is to be completed soon to open them during the holy month of Ramadan, in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce and international organizations, and in coordination with shops’ owners.
