Under the slogan “For A Better Climate We Plant A Tree”, the Directorate of Agriculture in Homs governorate today launched an afforestation campaign planting 1,000 saplings at the site of Aseila, east of the Al- Rastan city in the governorate’s countryside.
In a statement to the SANA correspondent, the director of Homs Agriculture, Engineer Younis Hamdan, explained that the afforestation campaign is launched today with the aim of planting an area of 10 hectares at the Aseila site with 6000 implants of forest varieties that suit the region’s climate, indicating that the forestry plan for the current year includes the cultivation of 112 hectares in 7 forestry sites in the various regions of the governorate.
In turn, the head of the Directorate’s forestry department, Eng. Amer Shaaban, stated that the afforestation campaign had been initiated after the rainfall, where the site of Aseila is located within the third stability area. It will be revived and re-cultivated today with 1,000 implants as it was vandalized and its trees were uprooted by terrorist organizations.
Shaaban noted that this year’s nursery plan is to produce 529 thousand plants ready for distribution. 60 thousand plants will be planted in all forestry sites, in addition to selling directly to those who want at a price of SYP 1000 for the implant and distributing 5 free of charge to each rural family under the family card.
Participants in the campaign highlighted the importance of participating in afforestation campaigns to restore the vegetation of forests that had been vandalized and stolen, to return as they had been because of their importance in improving climate and soil.
