Holding Elections within War Circumstances Reflects Determination of Syrian People, Government to Press Ahead with Reforms
DAMASCUS, (ST)-Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi has stressed that the Syrians’ big turnout on submission for the forthcoming parliamentary elections proves the Syrian people’s determination to challenge the critical circumstances caused by the ongoing terrorist war on the country and to practice their national rights and duties. It also indicates their confidence in the state’s national institutions, he said in his speech during the cabinet’s weekly session.
“Holding parliamentary elections within the ongoing war circumstances reflects the strong determination of the Syrian people and government to go ahead with the process of political and democratic reforms,” al-Halqi said.
He urged all categories of the Syrian society, particularly the youths, to take part in the elections as to contribute to building the homeland.
The cabinet session also discussed several social and services issues including the situation of stalled and stopped industrial companies. It also focused on the issue of rehabilitating the Salamieh-Athreya-Khanaser-Aleppo highway after the army has restored security and stability to it.
The latest developments in the local and international arenas were also reviewed by Deputy Premier, Minster of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem.
Al-Moallem asserted the government’s keenness on and commitment to the recently-concluded agreement on the “Cessation of Fighting Actions” in Syria, to the delivery of humanitarian aid to all the Syrian areas besieged by the terrorist organizations and to the achievement of national reconciliation across the country.
