MANILA, (ST) – Sameer Hijazi, member of the national triathlon team, has captured gold in the 2014 Subic Bay Triathlon Asian Championships which was held in the Philippines.
With Hihazi’s gold, the national team, who took part in the said event, lifted their tally to three medals.
Anas Hijazi took gold while Mohammad Shabat finished second in the youth category.
A triathlon is a multiple-stage competition of three continuous and sequential endurance disciplines.
Triathletes compete for fastest overall course completion time, including timed “transition” between the individual swim, cycle and run components.
The word “triathlon” is of Greek origin of (three).
It is to be noted that the Syrian Triathlon Federation was founded in 2005.
