High Time for Open-ended Risky Wars

During a press conference at the White House last Wednesday, President Trump spoke about his recent legal and obligatory withdrawal of the remaining US occupation troops from Syria, saying the U.S. should not be involved in the fighting in Syria.

“They’ve been fighting Syria for a long time and on the border. That’s the border with Syria. Why are we protecting Syria’s land? Why are we protecting their land?” Mr. Trump, the President of the uninvited occupier of Syria, outlined!

And Syria doesn’t want Turkey to take its land. I can understand that. But what does that have to do with the United States of America if they’re fighting over Syria’s land? Are we supposed to fight NATO member in order that Syria, who is not our friend, keeps their land? I don’t think so.

Mr. Trump, a businessman president, has finally realized, perhaps under the nearing of presidential elections, that it was a high time for his country to blunder and waste   resources, high time for open-ended risky wars and invasions in the Middle East.

Actually, the U.S. occupation of Syria does not advance a vital U.S. national-security objective, but adds to the more of exploitation and robbery.

Hopefully that Northern Syria is a start. After 3 years, it’s a start. It’s refreshing to hear talk of moving away from endless wars. A bathtub can be emptied a teaspoon at a time. That’s better than letting the faucet run all the time or turning it up full force. Endless wars aim to keep the tub full with the faucet running and the drain open. The water bill climbs and climbs.

Trump, added Michael S. Rozeff to the lewrockwell, did the right thing: Morally right, legally right, and pragmatically right. His most clearly identifiable moral obligation stems from his duty as president, and this duty includes protecting us Americans and preserving the lives of our armed forces. Withdrawing forces from Syria does exactly this.

In the anarchic space in which states operate, they maintain the flexibility to alter policies at will, all the way from informal arrangements to solemn treaty obligations. It is also morally right that Trump take a step, however, limited to fulfill a campaign promise.

It is legally right to withdraw in that the U.S. was not invited into Syria in the first place.

Trump’s pragmatic obligation includes optimizing protection of America given resources. It is unwise to undertake highly costly ventures for imperceptible gains. It is unwise for U.S. forces to be inserted as occupiers pseudo-peacekeepers when their very presence prevents regional states from making their own deals and reconciling their differences.
