Deir Ezzour (ST): As part of the activities accompanying the Family Markets Festival held by Deir Ezzour Governorate, the Directorate of Culture held a heritage exhibition by researcher Ghassan Khafaji and artist Jumaa Suleiman entitled “The Deir House,” which included a number of collectibles, tools and folklore Euphrates clothing.
Researcher Ghassan Khafaji said in a statement that the aim of this exhibition is to revive the heritage of Deir Ezzour and highlight the Euphrates heritage identity through pottery, copper and wood, in addition to the Euphrates miniatures represented by the inscriptions painted on clothes, brass, rosary. These inscriptions have connotations related to popular culture, which is unique to Deir Ezzour Governorate with a special character that is reflected in clothes, food and all the necessities of life.
In turn, artist Jumaa Suleiman pointed out that the exhibition includes a lot of tools made of straw and tools that were used to make bread, food and drink, in addition to the types and items of clothing such as “Kalabieh, Al-Akal, Al-Habrih, Al-Milfa’, and the Deir Cloak, the hat, the fez, and others” according to different time periods, pointing out that this exhibition comes to highlight the popular heritage of the governorate and within the efforts being made to preserve the Euphrates heritage, both material and immaterial.
