DAMASCUS,(ST)_ The Ministry of Health is launching today, through Wednesday, the National Immunization Days, targeting children under five and reproductive age women, in 1200 health centers and mobile teams and medical clinics, on the sideline of the World Immunization Week.
Minister of Health Dr Saad Naif said that the campaign is targeting children under five- year old in order to assess their vaccination and update their vaccines prescribed within the national vaccination program, which includes 11 vaccines in addition to provide women at childbearing age with tetanus vaccine.
He explained that the ministry has allocated for the national Immunization Days 1200 health centers, scores of vaccination teams, 30 medical clinic, and mobile service clinics to provide the vaccine at temporary accommodation centers for affected people and areas, where health services were damaged by armed terrorist groups.
Since December 2013 through the beginning of April 2014, the ministry of Health launched five national immunization campaigns against polio after the emergence of several polio cases in Deir ez-Zor, Damascus, Aleppo, These campaigns covered more than 9.2 million children under five year-old age.
