Health Ministry: 4224 out of 6781 quarantined people discharged so far

DAMASCUS, SANA- The Ministry of Health announced that the number of persons who have been quarantined from the 5th of February 2020 until May 14th is 6781, 4224 of them were discharged while 2557 are still under health observation .

Assistant Director of the Contagious and Terminal Diseases Department at the Ministry Dr. Atef al-Tawil stated on Thursday that 13 planes transporting 2770 Syrians stranded abroad arrived in Syria coming from nine countries via Syrian Airlines in the last two weeks , stressing that the quarantine centers have been prepared, to accommodate all the coming persons, in cooperation with the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Religious Trust ,and Labor and Social Affairs.

The Ministry confirmed that all the services provided in the quarantine centers in addition to the tests to detect the coronavirus for the coming Syrians are completely free of charge, giving priority to the elderly, the chronically ill, pregnant women and people with disabilities.

The statement clarified that quarantine the arrivals, especially that most of them come from countries that have recorded high rates of infection, aimed at protecting citizens and health security, as their discharge before ensuring their safety may cause a spread of infection and therefore having to return precautionary closure measures, which means stopping the business and commercial activities of citizens.

The Ministry stressed that the epidemiological situation is being monitored at the national level with the gradual opening of economic and service activities to guarantee health security of the citizens and curb the infections, indicating that 48 cases of Coronavirus have been registered in Syria, with 29 of the patients having recovered while 3 passed away.

The ministry renewed an appeal to citizens with necessity to adhere to health instructions.
