Director of Planning and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Health in the caretaker government Zuhair Karat discussed with the World Health Organization representative in Syria, Christina Bethke, and a delegation from the regional office of the organization ways to enhance health cooperation.
The two sides also discussed the general framework of the joint plan between the organization and the ministry to ensure the provision of health services optimally to citizens.
They focused on future steps to meet emerging health and humanitarian needs resulting from wars and emergencies, and on ways to improve comprehensive health coverage, address health emergencies, and prepare for epidemics.
During the meeting, Karat stressed the need for the joint commitment to work on the agreed-upon priorities, in a way that contributes to supporting national development priorities, which are embodied in the drug security, programs to treat chronic diseases, developing and preserving human resources, achieving comprehensive health coverage, and determining a health package of services.
In turn, Bethke indicated that the organization is cooperating with the Ministry of Health to strengthen the medical supply chain in Syria, and is greatly seeking to develop partnership with it regarding the citizens’ access to medicines and medical aid.
