Heads of Arab writers’ unions stress the necessity of protecting the Palestinian identity

Beirut, (ST) – Head of the Arab Writers Union in Syria Muhammad Al-Hourani stressed the necessity of perpetuating the Palestinian identity in literature and culture to defend the identity and belonging of this Arab land in the face of the Zionist entity and its tools.

In his speech during the activities of the permanent forum of heads of Arab writers’ unions that concluded in Beirut, and titled “Palestine, Resisting Identity and History,” Al-Hourani pointed to the necessity of strengthening national identity in Arab education curricula and drama because the enemy wants to obliterate the identity so that the Palestinian issue is not present.

He pointed out that the criminal and terrorist hand that struck Syria and was defeated thanks to the steadfastness of its people, the sacrifices of its army, and the culture of belonging among the Syrians is the same one that targets the Palestinian people, but it will be defeated as a result of the legendary steadfastness of this people, their adherence to their land, and their defense of it.

The participants in the forum met earlier with the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, who noted that the meeting of writers and writers at this stage under the name and flag of Palestine within this forum is a matter of great importance, especially since the aggression and crimes committed by the Israeli entity that the Palestinian people are exposed to are not known history has no parallel.

In a speech addressed to the forum during a session at the National Library in Beirut, the Lebanese Minister of Culture, Judge Muhammad Wissam Al-Murtada, denounced the “civilized” world that stands by as a spectator in the face of the most horrific massacre of genocide against the Palestinian people. He stressed the role of pen-holders in exposing Zionist crime and exposing its false narratives related to their historical right in Palestine.

The forum witnessed the participation of its delegations in a symposium held at Beirut Arab University in Tripoli, as part of the activities of “Tripoli, Capital of Arab Culture for the Year 2024,” with official and student attendance. Activities were also held in Sidon and Tire in southern Lebanon.

The participants stressed the necessity of the intellectual’s presence in all places and issues that concern his nation. They called for permanent coordination of efforts between Arab federations to deepen identity, perpetuate the history of resistance, and enhance the presence of the Palestinian cause in all literary genres.

It is noteworthy that the forum was launched on the second of this month, and was organized under the sponsorship and cooperation of several cultural bodies and writers’ unions, and the Writers’ Union in Iraq, Algeria, Egypt, Palestine, Morocco, Sudan, and Lebanon participated in it, alongside Syria.
