Charge de Affairs of the Syrian Embassy in Venezuela Wael Derki and a number of embassy staff members took part in the ceremony of appointing Head and members of the Syrian-Venezuelan Parliamentary Friendship Committee held at the Headquarters of the National Assembly of Venezuela.
During the ceremony, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Venezuela Vanessa Montero talked about the distinguished Syrian-Venezuelan relations and the common elements that connect between the two countries at the level of leaders, governments and peoples.
She hailed the supportive stances of the former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez towards Syria, stressing the need to enhance the economic and trade relations between the two countries with the aim of supporting their political stances in the face of the American and western unilateral coercive measures and other hostile western policies.
She also affirmed the important role being played by the Syrian community in Venezuela that contributes to all walks of life in the country.
On his part, Imad Sa’ab, head of the Syrian-Venezuelan Parliamentary Friendship Committee recalled President Chavez’s historical visit to Syria in 2010.
The Charge de Affairs of the Syrian Embassy Wael Derki, on his part, said that the relation between the peoples of Syria and Venezuela is more than traditional friendship; rather, it is that of fraternity and integration.
He expressed his hope that the formation of this committee will be a major contribution to strengthening cooperation and coordination in all possible fields not only in the parliamentary one, especially in ratifying tens of agreements, memorandums of understanding and other legal documents signed between the Syrian and Venezuelan governments.
The Syrian Embassy in Caracas is always ready to help in achieving more rapprochement and integration between the two countries, Derki added.
Later, the head and members of the committee took the oath in front of the Deputy Speaker Vanessa Montero.
