Hassan Abdullah al-Nouri Second Presidential Candidate

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Speaker of the People’s Assembly (PA) Mohammad Jihad Lahham on Thursday announced the PA received from the Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC) a new presidential candidacy application submitted by Mr. Hassan Abdullah al-Nouri. 

Al-Nouri, born in Damascus in 1960, today submitted his application of candidacy for the post of the president of the Syrian Arab Republic attached with required documents to the SCC, which in turn informed the PA so as the MPs will be able to support him or not.

A presidential candidate needs to get the support of at least 35 MPs.

Al-Nouri is the second to apply for presidential candidacy after PA member Maher Abdul Hafeez Hajjar who on Tuesday submitted his application to the SCC.

Hassan al-Nouri has got a BA in Economy and Business Administration from Damascus University and a Doctorate in Public Administration, human resources management, from Kennedy University in the US.

He was the Secretary of the Damascus Industry Chamber from 1997 to 2000, an MP from 1998 to 2003 and the Minister of State for Administrative Development from 2000 to 2002.

Al-Nouri is married and has got five children.

The SCC had announced that it has been ready to receive candidacy applications for the post of the president until Thursday May 1st, 2014.
