HASAKAH, (ST)_ The residents of Hasakah city protested on Thursday against cutting off water supply from Alouk water station to more than million citizens in the city and its nearby areas by Turkish occupation amid the international community’s silence on this crime.
The residents carried banners reading: “Hasakah is dying of thirst”, ‘Where is the UN and the other organizations that claim their keenness on humanity??” “Zionism of Erdogan manifests in the crime of cutting water and killing children”.
According to the Syrian News Agency (SANA), the participants in the protest made speeches in which they referred to the fact that the international convention prohibits the use of water as a weapon to fight people.
The speeches criticized the silence of UN organizations on this crime, which started 2 years ago.
Head of the Bar Association’s branch in Hasakah Abdul Aziz Jawish said that water shutoff by the Turkish regime is a crime against humanity, pointing out that western media outlets report no single word about this crime.
“The Turkish regime bears responsibility for this crime,” he added.
For his part, Hasakah Mufti Abdul Hamid Al-Kandah called on the international community to put an end to this crime and to re-operate the Alouk Water station , which is the only source of water to the residents of Hasakah and its surrounding areas.
Dahham Al-Sultan made a speech on behalf of Hasakah’s tribes in which he asserted that the expulsion of the Turkish and US occupation forces is the only way to end the suffering of the people in the region.
It is noteworthy that the Turkish occupation has cut off water supply from the Alouk station to Hasakah province 26 times since the occupation of the town of Ras al-Ayn.
