Hasakah Governor to Nylund: SDF MilitiaViolations Deprive Children of Education

Hasakah Governor Ghassan Khalil confirmed the presence of large numbers of children outside the educational process as a result of the violations of the “Qasad militia” and its seizure of schools and the systematic prevention of education, which poses a great danger to the region, as ignorance is a fertile ground for terrorism.

During his meeting with the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Syria, Victor Nylund, Khalil stressed the governorate’s readiness to provide support to facilitate the organization’s work in the region to support the service and educational sectors, calling for the need to expand the organization’s activities and projects during the next year’s plan to be more comprehensive and achieve greater benefit for the people.

Khalil called for the intervention of humanitarian organizations to reveal the fate of the detainees in the prisons of the SDF militia and work to release them, especially children, and stop the violations against them and their kidnapping to be forcibly recruited to fight in the militia.

For his part, Nylund said that the organization will, during the next year, expand its projects in the governorate, especially in the fields of education and health, and that the focus will be on children and keenness to continue their education in a bid to ensure a better future for them.

The directors of the service departments and institutions in the governorate demanded that the organization intervene effectively to sterilize the Alouk water station, as it is the only source of drinking water, and to secure a strategic solution that ends the suffering of the people of Hasakah. The directors called for an increase in the quantities of drinking water sterilization materials provided to the Water Establishment in Hasakah as well as electrical equipment for the horizontal pumping stations at Alouk Water Station.
