Palmyra (ST): The Western Bayarat region in Palmyra countryside witnessed an abundant harvest of wheat and barley crops.
The quantities harvested by farmers and delivered to grain silos and the Seed Multiplication Corporation amounted to about 11,542 tons of wheat and 23 tons of barley, according to the head of the Palmyra Agriculture Department, Eng. Ahmed Youssef.
Youssef indicated in a statement to SANA news reporter that during the next season’s plan, in addition to the cultivation of wheat, barley and vegetables, legume crops will be introduced in order to improve the chemical properties of the soil and encourage farmers to plant these important crops for the region.
In his turn, the head of the Agricultural Association in Palmyra, Walid Asaad, pointed out in a similar statement that the harvest operations of this season in the region had ended without any significant fires or a shortage of the required harvesting equipment.
He added that the production was good despite the difficulties that must be overcome in the coming seasons, which are related to electrical outages as a result of malfunctions and the possibility of providing organic fertilizer to farmers.
