Hantuchova will face Sharapova

Daniela Hantuchova earned a date with Maria Sharapova after winning her opening match at the Open GDF Suez in Paris.

The Slovak was handed an easy passage into the second round when her opponent Marina Erakovic quit the match at 6-3 3-0 down.

Hantuchova has only won one of her previous nine matches with top seed Sharapova, the first time they met 10 years ago.

Elsewhere in the first round Frenchwoman Alize Cornet labored past Magdalena Rybarikova of Serbia 6-3 5-7 6-2.

Rybarikova struggled on her serve in the second set but Cornet missed chances to break her midway through the set and then twice dropped her own serve.

However the local hope broke twice at the start of the third set to open up a 3-0 lead and regain control.

Austrian Yvonne Meusburger beat Anna-Lena Friedsam of Germany 7-5 6-1 and Karin Knapp of Italy defeated Spain’s Lara Arruabarrena Vecino 6-4 6-1.
