Hands Off Syria, Don’t Bomb Syria

1134  Letters and Emails Sent So Far to Capitol Hill

– The American People have spoken. The latest polls show more than 60% are opposed to any military action in Syria.

– Our closest ally, Britain has also rejected military intervention in Syria.

– Syria is not an imminent threat to the USA and has not attacked any of the USA allies in the Middle East.

– Attacking Syria without a UN resolution and without any aggression against our nation is flagrant violation of international law.

– Our government is in debt and military action will further add to the financial drain.

– Attacking Syria in the midst of the instability of the crisis may provoke unpredictable responses and ignite a much wider regional war forcing the United States into an open ended conflict in the midst of a very fragile economic recovery.

– Al-Qaeda is well established in Syria and weakening the central government will only further Al-Qaeda’s objective in toppling Syrian government at this stage.

– Remember, you are in Washington to represent the people of the United States and the people have spoken loud and clear. “No to starting a war in Syria”!

(I call upon President Obama and the Congress to use restraint and balanced approach before rushing to the use of force that will result in further loss of Syrian lives and more destruction. I urge the president and the congress to heed the overwhelmingly negative polls on this matter, domestically as well as across the globe.

It is no secret that many of the insurgents fighting the Syrian government have been terrorist organizations affiliated with Al Qaeda, some of which officially labeled by the administration as such. The U.S. should not be fighting on the same side of Al Qaeda, no matter what our objectives might be. The administration shall remember, “the enemy of our enemy is still our worst enemy”. Any bombing campaign of Syria is likely to cause the death of more innocents, will embolden these staunch enemies of the US in Syria, escalate their campaign and draw the US deeper into the Syrian conflict, thus directly threatening our citizens and soldiers as they did in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere. I urge the administration and congress to look deeper into the allegations of use of chemical weapons, not just rely on foreign intelligence services.

I stand with the Administration in its affirmation for a political, not military, solution to the Syrian crisis. The Syrian people are looking for the United States to assume its leadership role to bring all parties to Geneva 2 to reach a just, peaceful, and lasting resolution for a democratic and secular Syria. To that extent, we urge the administration to use its political weight with all parties to come to the negotiating table).
