LATAKKIA, (ST)- In an atmosphere of amity and warmth reflecting friendship between the two peoples of Syria and Russia, the Syrian-Russian Friendship Days were opened on Monday at Dar al-Assad for Culture in Lattakia .
The event was organized by Lattakia Tourism Directorate in cooperation with the Russian Cultural Center in Damascus.
A number of Syrian and Russian artists participated in the event, displaying a collection of handicraft works and paintings. The exhibition attracted many visitors who enjoyed knowing about the Syrian handicrafts and heritage.
Syrian artist Rizkallah Bahna, who came from Aleppo, displayed religious icons, wood sculptures and photographs of touristic places in Syria .
Bahna said his handicraft and sculpture works reflect diversity, originality and traditions in Syria.
Valentina Kaish , a Russian artist taking part in the expo with a number of handmade clothes and games, said “I am enthusiastic and happy to participate in the exhibition which will enhance the historical relationship between Russia and Syria”, stressing the need for repeating such events as to deepen ties through the exchange of cultures.
Russian artists Victoria Masilova and Svetlana Musica participated with a number of panels representing a message of peace from the people of Syria and Russia to the world.
Dr. Maria Jnad, a Syrian artist, said she was inspired by the Russia culture. In her paintings, she used simple and clear techniques as simple as those used in the tales of Russian children. She believes that this exhibition will enhance cultural exchange.
Talking about her participation, Dr. Sawsan Mu’alla said her paintings depicted the Syrian heritage, including Aleppo countryside old houses, and temples which are inspired by Syria’s rich and diverse heritage.
Artist Mohammed Kheirbek exhibited a collection of wood sculptures depicting themes from the Syrian mythology and the current situation. Kheirbek confirmed that using wood gave beauty and spirituality to his sculptures. He said he was pleased that the Russian visitors admired his works.
